UN Monitoring Mission on human rights submitted to Ukraine Istanbul Protocol
The UN monitoring mission on human rights in Ukraine presented the Istanbul Protocol, a manual on effective investigation and documentation of tortures and other cruel, inhuman or humiliating kinds of treatment and punishment.
The given protocol was published in 1999 in the English language. For three years it has been worked at by more than 75 experts in law, medicine and human rights, the representatives of 40 organizations from 15 countries of the world.
The UN Monitoring Mission has translated this manual into Ukrainian and Russian languages to help the Government document cases of tortures. The result should be bringing the perpetrators to responsibility and ensuring justice for victims.
This protocol will be useful for reading for all those involved with the search activities and work directly with the bodies of the victims.
